FYI: Byliners Annual Workshop

I received an e-mail requesting help in promoting the Byliners Annual Workshop.  Here it is:

Byliners Workshop: Illustrator & Photoshop for Writers

Saturday, February 14th, 2009, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Engineering Technology Center (Bldg. S), Texas State Technical College (TSTC)

The Rio Grande Valley Byliners is a writer’s support group that meets once a month in Harlingen. I was invited to speak at one of their meetings in the summer.

As they mention on their website, they are “a group of published and unpublished writers who love to write and are interested in learning how to improve and market their writing.”  This organization is a great resource to anyone living in the RGV that has aspirations of becoming an author.

FYI: 8th Annual Texas Book Festival/UIL Fiction Writing Contest

I received an e-mail today announcing a writing contest for students. I’d like to share info from the e-mail:

The University Interscholastic League (UIL) and the Texas Book Festival announce the 8th Annual Fiction Writing Contest. Texas junior high and high school students are invited to submit a piece of original fiction, no more than 2,000 words in length, to be judged by Texas authors, some of whom will appear at the 2009 Texas Book Festival, Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 in Austin.

Entries should focus on the theme, “In My Own Backyard.”  Schools are limited to three entries per division. There is no entry fee.  Entries must be received by July 1, 2009.
