This is finally coming to fruition! I’m putting together a Love Your Local campaign in Weslaco…one of the first initiatives is a Celebrate Your Independents week which will be taking place July 6th through July 11th.

This is idea is in no way my own creation. There are many great shop local campaigns in place in countless communities throughout the country…as an indie business owner, now more than ever,  I believe we need such a movement for all locally owned independent businesses.

Now that I’m off for the summer, I have a bit more time to put it together.

So far here’s what’s happening…

INDIE BINGO:  During Celebrate Your Independents Week, visit your participating local independent businesses and pick up an Indie Bingo card.  Have each business mark your card. Once you have 5 in a row, hand the card over to a participating store to win a gift basket with offerings from the 24 participating shops.  Winners will be drawn at the Celebrate Your Independents Week Celebration at The Storybook Garden, Sat., July 11th at 10:30am.

THROUGHOUT THE WEEK:  Participating local businesses and organizations are collaborating in creating awesome events all week. Pick up a schedule at participating stores beginning July 1st and make plans to attend!

CELEBRATE YOUR INDEPENDENTS WEEK CELEBRATION:  In the courtyard there will be a Pet Costume Contest prior to the drawing plus, you’ll have a chance to meet & greet participating local merchants. This will take place in the courtyard at the Villa de Cortez (right outside The Storybook Garden) on Sat., July 11th at 10:30am.
